State Constitutions vs. Federal Constitution?

In principle, the Article Six clause about religious tests should have been enough to trump any provisions of state constitutions like the one you cite from the South Carolina constitution. But it would indeed become a question of when some part of the federal government would have gotten around to enforcing the Article Six principle, telling the state that the provision of that state's constitution is obviously trumped by the US Constitution.
