Will starting skateboarding be easy?

My friends want me to try skateboarding because we all think it would be a really cool thing to do. I have experience with a wave board and I am a snowboarding junkie. And I was wondering if this will make it easier to learn to skateboard. Also if you could tell me a good website to help and/or a place to get decent skateboards that aren't to pricey. Thanks to any answerers.
