Why didnt the US ratify the Treaty of Versailles?

Many senators were opposed to the treaty for various reasons, enough so that getting the 2/3 majority necessary was impossible. President Wilson, who was one of the major supporters for it, also collapsed from a stroke, effectively killing the chances for ratification.
